To compete in the global information and communications technology (ICT) sector, Canada must maintain a highly skilled ICT workforce. As the number of professionals in the field declines, internationally educated professionals (IEPs) are becoming increasingly important to the sector’s HR strategies. The Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) and Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) are collaborating on a multi-pronged initiative to dismantle the barriers that inhibit the integration of IEPs into the workforce. Blueprint had previously proved itself a valued partner to ICTC on a number of other projects. This time, ICTC asked Blueprint to assist with strategic communications in support of the IEP initiative.
“ICT is an extremely important industry in Canada, both technologically and economically. The work we do at ICTC ensures the vitality of that industry for the long term, and that vitality depends on a steady flow of talented professionals into the field. Blueprint has helped us roll out an important IEP initiative that will help ensure the prosperity of the ICT industry in Canada for the future.” Norman McDevitt, PMP
Vice President, Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC)
The Blueprint approach
To succeed, ICTC needed to bring industry on board and encourage recognition of IEPs’ competencies and experience. Blueprint built a comprehensive, detailed, multi-year communications strategy to fulfill those objectives. After a thorough environmental assessment, the Blueprint team further defined a clear and practical action plan.
Highlights and outcomes
ICTC is currently implementing the action plan. Following the initial project, Blueprint was commissioned to develop a new name, tagline and wordmark for the program.
